Michigan Economic Development Commission

Our team has conducted several engagements for the State of Michigan’s Economic Development Commission, including: Technology Industry Target Market Analysis: We were tasked with identifying the best potential prospect companies in target technology industries to support the Commission’s proactive marketing efforts. The methodology combined analysis of both industry trends and individual corporate operating profiles to determine companies most likely to expand or relocate facilities. The approach also allowed development of tailored marketing messages for each high-priority prospect and highlighted how the client’s location attributes supports corporate objectives.

Semiconductor Industry – Our research focused on location drivers of leading companies in key subsectors of the wafer fabrication market, and highlighted successful past economic development efforts

Biotechnology/Life Sciences Industries – We focused on the industry context and key location drivers, as well as optimal development strategy, for the development of life sciences business in the state

Alternative Energy/Fuel Cells – We conducted a comprehensive Industry Assessment and Legislative Initiative project for this emerging industry. The initial study consisted of a detailed profile of the industry; analysis of potential State economic ramifications that may occur due to an industry shift toward Fuel Cell technology; determination of related developers, suppliers, universities, research institutions, and organizations; and analysis of the industry’s current locations to determine any existing or emerging geographic clusters. We also recommended programs, including legislative, institutional, and marketing initiatives to enhance the State’s attractiveness for the Alternative Energy/Fuel Cell industry.

Ecommerce – We assisted in leveraging current business strengths in life sciences and manufacturing to establish Michigan as a leader in attracting Internet businesses. Policy issues such as whether and how to tax Internet transactions, and infrastructure issues, relating primarily to telecommunications, were addressed in laying an appropriate foundation for a business attraction and retention strategy.
